Ten Cardiologists Return to Independent Practice, Launching a New Chapter for Cardiovascular Care
Physicians join Midwest Cardiovascular Institute as the physician-led group officially opens its new Hinsdale location at 333 Chestnut Street
HINSDALE, IL — July 6, 2026 — At a time when more than four out of five U.S. physicians are employed by hospitals or corporate entities, ten respected cardiologists have chosen a different path. The physicians have joined Midwest Cardiovascular Institute (MCI), an independent physician-led cardiovascular practice, as the organization officially opens its newest location at 333 Chestnut Street in Hinsdale. This milestone represents more than practice growth—it reflects a growing belief that physician leadership and collaborative hospital partnerships create a stronger future for patient care.
For these physicians, many of whom devoted more than ten years caring for patients within the same health system, this transition represents more than a career change. It reflects a shared belief that physicians are best positioned to lead clinical decisions while working collaboratively with hospitals.
“We believe physicians and hospitals are better aligned by remaining independent of each other and collaborating with each other, versus ownership,” said Dr. Andrew Lawrence, Electrophysiologist and President of Midwest Cardiovascular Institute-East. “We are convinced this collaborative alignment is better for patients and the communities we serve.”
The new Hinsdale office expands MCI’s footprint across the western Chicago suburbs, joining existing locations in Naperville, Elmhurst, Plainfield, and Yorkville. Patients at the Hinsdale location have access to comprehensive cardiovascular care, including general and interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and advanced cardiac imaging. The practice is currently scheduling appointments for new and returning patients. The ten physicians now seeing patients with MCI are:
Meechai Tessalee, MD – Interventional Cardiology
Paul Ryan, MD – Interventional Cardiology
Francisco Aguilar, MD – Cardiac Electrophysiology
Gregory Lewis, MD – General Cardiology
James McMahon, MD – General Cardiology
Daniel Krauss, MD – General Cardiology
Saurabh Shah, MD – Cardiac Electrophysiology
Gary Gibbs, MD – General Cardiology
Selva Patham, MD – Interventional Cardiology
Andrew Lawrence, MD – Cardiac Electrophysiology
“Healthcare is changing, and patients deserve models that combine the strengths of independent physicians with the resources of outstanding hospitals,” said Jacob Corbell, Chief Executive Officer of Midwest Cardiovascular Institute. “We believe those are complementary—not competing—ideas. Our vision has always been to create an organization where physicians lead clinical care, hospitals remain valued partners, and every decision begins with one question: What is best for the patient? Welcoming these ten outstanding physicians validates that vision and marks an exciting new chapter for cardiovascular care in our communities.”
The expansion comes as MCI celebrates its five-year anniversary. Founded in 2021 by physicians committed to independent practice, the group has grown steadily across the western suburbs while maintaining physician ownership and leadership. Five years later, MCI continues to demonstrate that physician independence and collaborative healthcare partnerships are not opposing ideas—they are complementary. As the organization expands into Hinsdale, it remains committed to building a future where physicians lead, hospitals partner, and patients always come first.
